If you’re currently experiencing nausea, morning sickness, or food aversions during pregnancy then you know it can be miserable without a little relief. The tricky part is not all of the same strategies work for each person. If you’re feeling frustrated, you’re not alone. I’ve compiled a list of my top three tips for nausea that worked for me during my first pregnancy. While your symptoms not go away completely, even a little relief can be a big win.

Tips for nausea:

  1. Stay hydrated. If you’re struggling to drink water, try flavoring your water with lemon, mint leaves, strawberries, or even a clean source of electrolytes such as LMNT.
  2. Minimize greasy, spicy, super sweet, and fatty foods. Sugary foods can cause big spikes and drops in blood sugar. This may help right away but you may feel worse when your blood sugar drops. While you may have tolerated greasy, spicy, and fatty foods prior to pregnancy, you may find they leave you feeling more nauseous following the meal.
  3. Add protein to meals & snacks. If you’re struggling to eat protein and only craving carbs, try eating high quality carbs first and then see if you can add protein sources such as nuts, eggs, cheese, nut butter, beans, approved protein powder or even meat. Go for protein sources first thing in the morning to set yourself up for success.
